Legitimate Work From Home Jobs - Do They Really Exist?
by Shane Vandeventer

In today's work place the demands upon the worker are always increasing. With unemployment currently at 9%, employers feel they have the upper hand and that employees will be less inclined to seek employment elsewhere. For exempt, salaried employees this presents more pressure and more demands from their bosses in many circumstances. The silver lining is this economic cloud is that companies are looking to save money. There are several situations where workers can benefit from this current economic situation. Some of these work opportunities have existed for some time and others have become more common recently.
Are you currently in special position with your company where you have established yourself as a "MVE" (Most Valued Employee)? If so, you may be able to negotiate your current job into a work from home job. It depends on the industry you are in and the flexibility of your employer. If they think you may bolt they may be flexible than you thought. Sure you might still have to come in a couple days a week, but I have seen this happen on a couple of occasions.
Another area for a potential work from home gig is the contract job. Sales or service jobs would be one example of a work from home opportunity. Voluntary benefit companies offer tremendous opportunity for their direct sales people or openers. This type of position gives you a lot of flexibility and the ability to work from home. Of course many sales positions offer a work from home situation. One growth area for contract jobs is the online teaching market. There are several online universities that are always looking for more teachers to support that vast number of students that doing their undergraduate and graduate coursework online.
You don't have be a superstar to get a work at home opportunity. Some companies offer telecommuting to new employees for salaried positions. Companies realize that to find the right person they may have to search outside their geographic boundaries and when they find that person they may not be able to convince them to move. One of my golfing buddies has a salaried job with a company in Cincinnati but he lives here in the Chattanooga area.
The last area I would like to point out is the direct sales industry. However, it wouldn't qualify as a "job" because it is like having your own business. There some tremendous incomes being made by people just you who want a better life and are willing to work for it but they don't want to sacrifice their lifestyle or values to attain it.

Why It's Important to Have Solar Power Training
by James Copper

Electricity and utility costs have almost gotten the better of all of us. Each month it seems as though the rates are going higher and higher. If our satellite bill is too high, we can make adjustments to our package and get a smaller one that's more affordable. If we're using too much fuel in our car, we can car pool or consolidate our trips to save gas. Our utility bills can only be cut back so much, especially when they keep going up. A solution that's been very helpful and economical for many is switching to solar power.
Solar power comes from the power we get from the sun, which is used to give us energy. The energy that the entire world needs in an year is emitted from the sun in one day so you can see there's definitely enough to go around. It's just a matter of putting it to good use for you. If you're unfamiliar with solar energy and how it works, you may know someone that has had some solar power training. You can also choose to take solar power training yourself so you can learn ways to implement it into your home to help save on energy costs.
Solar cells, also known as photovoltaic cells, are used to product solar power from the sun. You put the solar cells some place where they'll be underneath direct sunlight. Each time the sun's rays hit the photovoltaic cells; there is a chemical reaction that causes an electric current, which is turned into electricity. If you have enough solar cells in your home and a lot of sunny days, you'll have enough electricity stored up to get your through night time and cloudy days when there is not sunlight. Solar power training will teach you everything you need to know to properly install solar cells in your home as well as how to get the most benefits from them.
Solar power training will also teach you about the different types solar power; active solar and passive solar. The difference between the two methods is that only active solar involves the installation of solar panels or solar cells to convert the sun's rays into electricity. When it's first converted to electricity, it's DC (direct current) and then it's later transformed to AC (alternate current). Passive solar does not involve solar panels. Passive solar is obtained, for instance, by building a home with all the windows facing the direct sunlight or using tanks or other structures to capture the sunlight. Passive solar is often used to provide homes with heat and hot water.
Although the initial cost of switching to solar energy may be expensive, if you have solar power training, you may be able to install as much of the solar system as possible into your home and save on labor costs. The cost of the solar panels as well as the batteries is expensive; however, the savings you'll see over time will make them more than pay for themselves. Consider checking into some solar power training courses in your area and learn all you can about this new method for our utilities.

Transcription - A Lucrative Job
by Sunil Punjabi

A monthly income is mandatory for survival, and a perfect career has got its infinite charms. Still, a full time career may not be everybody's cup of tea. There could be personal equations that prevent people from accepting a job that requires daily traveling, as well as submitting to the time schedules and other regimens of an office. This happens too often in women's case. A big problem solver for such people is what is known as Transcription. It is a job that they can do from the comforts of their homes and can be mastered within a reasonable time.
A Transcription job involves the converting of an audio recording into a printable document, and can be Medical Transcription services, Legal transcription services, or General transcription services. In all the three, fast typing skills with good grammar and punctuation, and also the ability to listen and decipher things correctly, are absolutely necessary. While these are the common requirements for any type of Transcription job, medical and legal transcription require certain additional skills as well.
For doing a Medical Transcription job, some basic knowledge of diseases, surgical procedures, and medical terminology is imperative, as all the recordings to be converted would be on medical subjects. Those who are already halfway into the profession like medical students or nursing students may find the job easy as a part time occupation. Others will have to take courses to familiarize themselves with the subject, if they hope to get entry into the field.
In the case of Legal Transcription, as the name implies, it is the legal documents that have to be listened to and converted into soft copies and hard copies. So, a background in legal terminology is what is required here. Again, those who are on their way to becoming lawyers or paralegals, will be able to handle the job easily, while others will have to take a course or do substantial reading on the subject to get acquainted with its terminology and methods of presentation. Though not as plentiful as medical transcription jobs, there is a steady increase in the number of jobs available for Legal Transcription.
Audio recordings of the General Transcription category could be on any subject like debates, discussions, meetings, seminars, inaugural speeches, ceremonial functions, or radio and TV programs. No special subject knowledge is required for transcribing these tapes and cassettes. If the employing company is satisfied with your listening powers, deciphering abilities, typing skills, and language skills, you are likely to land the job.
The main attraction of a Transcription job is the fact that you can do it at any time from home, according to your convenience and in the pace you prefer to. Work can be found online and after finishing can be submitted online. You can just sit in your bedroom or study, and finish the whole job, instead of having to get dressed and drive or pedal or use the local train to get to your office. It will not make any difference to you whether it is snowing or raining outside, whereas in a regular job these can be big roadblocks in getting to the workplace. And as you get used to the job, your typing speed will increase and you will get more comfortable with decoding what you hear. Pretty soon, having a Transcription job would become a win-win situation all the way.

Laid off?? Now What?!?
by Hallie Crawford

Were you just laid off from your job? One small consolation is - you're not alone. This is happening worldwide at an alarming rate. But even though it's happening to so many people; it is still a shock to actually here those words, "We're letting you go." After you hear this your next thought it - now what? Here's the answer to that question:
You are more in control than you think. Obviously you did not create the weak economy leading to this event. BUT - you ARE in total control of how you respond to that event. Here's how that works: Suppose you get depressed and just give up. Your response would obviously create a negative reality in your life.
But what if you instead respond by "taking the tiger by the tail" and start a new business on the web, or become a consultant in your field of specialization. You have then created an entirely different reality in response to the exact same event.
Turn your frustration into a motivator to start your search for your ideal career. You'll create a whole new reality for yourself that will allow you to move forward, instead of remaining stuck where you are.
You may find that you are ready to switch gears completely. You may wonder, am I really ready for a career transition? How can I best prepare myself for a change? But even before you delve into the components of a satisfying career, it helps immensely to cultivate a healthy and positive mental outlook. People who are successful at making a change are the ones who are willing to overcome their fears, doubts and insecurities in order to make it happen. You too, can be one of these people.
Keep these three tips in mind when forging ahead on your path to a more fulfilling and rewarding career:
1. Commit yourself to making a change. Something that is incredibly important to any change you make in your life is your level of commitment. You have to be committed. How committed are you to finding a career that fits, on a scale from 1-10? If it's not at a 10, what do you need to do to move it up the scale? The time to ask yourself key questions is now. Do your research, so you know what questions to keep in mind. Contact a career expert who can help you become reacquainted with your goals and dreams. Explore career websites. Take personality tests. You will find that the more time you invest in career opportunities and self-discovery, the more committed to the cause you'll become.
2. Learn to overcome obstacles. To be successful in changing career paths, you need to learn to overcome obstacles you will encounter along the way. The obstacles I see time and time again for people wanting to make a career change are: not knowing what to look for in a job (so they take one that is "good enough" that they don't truly enjoy) and negative beliefs--not believing they can successfully make the change. With practice, you can retrain your mind to see past perceived limitations, which are only a figment of your imagination anyway! With sufficient self-exploration, you will be able to pinpoint the exact qualities of the ideal career for you... and even the characteristics that you don't want in a career.
3. Get support. I was able to very successfully make my career transition into coaching in large part because of my own coach. She helped me create my plan, remain positive, move forward, identify what I wanted to do and learn to overcome obstacles. I'm being honest when I say: It really helps to have support from a group or a coach to remind you to stay positive and focused. Get support from a career coach who can provide solid guidance and the resources you need to move ahead with your plans.
Remember, life doesn't just 'happen' to us. It's our responses to life that create our personal reality! Think about this for a moment. You really ARE in charge of creating your own life!

Career Change to a Successful You

by James Copper

A Career change is a sure way of getting that zing back into your professional life. Most people battle with this idea all of their professional lives and a few of us choose not to take the beaten path and try something new. Most career changes if well planned do not require much additional qualifications or risk-taking. For Example, if you are moving from a training job to a teaching job or vice versa. The criteria for these jobs are pretty much the same, so it is easy to make that transition.
When Does It Call For A Career Change?
Career Changes should be considered if you experience a few or all of the following criteria.
- When your job becomes mundane and boring, and you sense that you are not value-adding to yourself or to the organization. You have reached that burnout stage and you have advanced as much as you could in your line of work. Your work now no longer offers the challenges it used to.
- You have changed employers too in the hope that a new organization might offer new challenges and it has not.
- After graduating, any new recruit has two basic requirements of a job - lots of travel and lots of money. When you are no longer single, all that hectic traveling is bound to place a lot of stress on your family life.
- When you are young, you are more mentally prepared to take on the stress that your job entails. As you grow older, your tolerance to stress decreases and you might find yourself seeking less stressful jobs.
- There are challenges, but there is no job satisfaction. And no amount of additional money in your current job is giving you that satisfaction. Though there might not be as much money in the job that you are considering, the thought of it itself is making you happy.
- The current job does not hold as many opportunities as it used to or it is being phased out for a more technologically advanced function.
Steps To Making A Career Change Of Your Choice
- You should be suitably qualified to make that change in career. If you are less qualified, consider taking up distance learning or training courses to bridge the gap. The more the information you have, the better it is. Understand the industry well and be prepared for the challenges you may have to face. Also understand that this is going to take longer than planned.
- Carefully evaluate the reasons that are making you head for a career change. If it is bad performance on your part, try better it at your current job itself. Changing your career because of a tough boss is not a valid enough reason to leave your job. This might boomerang when your prospective boss does background verification at your workplace.
- When you consider a career change, you must be open to starting at lower strata in the organization. Since you are just starting out, no employer might consider you for a managerial position. But that should not be a stumbling block when you are working on your dream career.
- As you begin to research on the industry of your choice, also begin building a network that you can fall back on for information. This provides a lot of leverage. Prospective employers will be aware of you as a potential resource. Also reading up on the Internet, joining discussion forums to help you gather information helps in making career changes.
